KNOW SANTANDER
Santander is the capital of the Cantabria region, where you can find one of the most impressive landscapes in Spain. Of Roman origin, it wasn't until the 18th century when the city started to grow economically and artistically, though the definitive jump occurred in the beginning of the 20th century, when it became the favourite place for the Spanish high society to spend their summer holidays. Today, Santander is still a major tourist destination and its splendour period has left a signature in the form of mansions and small palaces spread along the streets, which have become one of the main attractions of the city. Santander lies on one of the most beautiful bays in the world and there are amazing beaches, inside and outside the city centre. But Cantabria is much more than Santander and either along the coast or inland there are many lovely places to offer.
WHAT TO DO?
There are some must-visit spots in Santander's city centre, like the Cathedral, The Sardinero Big Casino and the Magdalena Palace, although you will enjoy the city just by walking and discovering the big stately mansions and small palaces on every corner.
El Sardinero is the main beach for the Santander locals, who enjoy many activities, from football to surfing, on sunny days.
