Sun, beach and party in a vibrant and lively city, full of energy and ready to take the world by storm
KNOW ALICANTE
Alicante doesn't hide its past, that's obvious when you walk around the city centre or look at the Santa Barbara Castle, the fortress that dominates the city. But the main attraction here is the weather: 300 sunny days per year make it easy to enjoy the lovely beaches. It's a vibrant place, full of personality, with lots of young people: a lot of Erasmus students come here every year to enjoy this amazing atmosphere. If that isn't enough, Alicante is a great starting point to explore the outstanding coast of the region and to do some sports and adventure.
WHAT TO DO?
It doesn't take long to see the sights, but a walk around the city centre and a climb up to the Santa Barbara Castle are a must. If you want to know more about its history, you can visit the local Archaeological Museum.
However, you will probably be drawn to the beaches and bars, the main attraction of the city. Alicante evenings have become quite famous: local people, students and tourists take to the streets until the sun sets and suddenly you are in the middle of one of the most bustling city nights.
When it comes to beaches, Postiguet beach is the most central one, while La Albufereta is a bit further out, but it's more charming. San Juan beach, away from the city centre but easily reachable by public transport, is a huge beach where you can enjoy a full day of sun, swimming and tasting one of the delicious rice dishes that are the local speciality.
At the summer solstice Alicante celebrates local festivals: On June 24th, the main night, all the campfires are lit on the beach, the Hogueras de San Juan, and everyone jumps over the fire and celebrates in a big party until sunrise signals the arrival of summer.
