At the Guadalquivir river shore, the former Hispalis was an important settlement during the Roman Empire, but it was after the discovery of America when Seville became the economical centre of the Spanish Empire and one of the most important cities in the world, a multicultural and rich metropolis with a population of more than one million people. The Indies Gate, as it was known, was an important cultural and artistic centre, home of painters like Velazquez or Murillo.

Today, Seville is the capital of Andalusia and the best spot in the region. Any visit to Spain would be improved by stopping in this historic and cultural gem, with a great leisure and food offer.

WHAT TO DO?

Some of the best things you can do in this city rich in monuments are walk around the city centre, go to the Reales Alcázares, visit the famous cathedral and the Giralda tower, contemplate the stunning Spain Square or discover the General Archive of Indies.

But Seville is much more than that: Plenty of bars, good atmosphere and lively streets, the city is the birthplace of flamenco and tradition can be experienced in every neighbourhood: Triana, Santa Cruz, el Arenal, la Alameda... This is a perfect city to go out for some tapas, although here you have to pay as an extra with your drinks, unlike in other cities of Andalusia. If you still feel strong enough, Seville's nightlife will not disappoint you.

You should try to avoid going in July and August, when the heat is suffocating. The city is alive with splendour during Easter and the Feria de Abril (April's Festival), however you should assume higher prices, but it's when you can live Seville to the fullest.
