In a city as famous as Barcelona, some places shouldn't be missed. Use this day to get a feel for the Catalan capital. Go to the Barrio Gótico and look around the beautiful gothic cathedral. Walk along Las Ramblas, the popular pedestrian shopping street, and check out Boquería market. You could also visit El Borne and the marina, or wander around Raval, the most cosmopolitan neighbourhood with a broad range of cultural attractions and bars. And of course, you must go to the gem of Barcelona: Sagrada Familia, Gaudí's masterpiece. If you still have time, also go to Güell Park, another work by the famous Spanish architect. After an exhausting day in Barcelona you will sleep very well on the night bus to Madrid.

Your day in Madrid should include a visit to the Golden Triangle of Art, the three most important museums of the capital: Prado Museum, Reina Sofia Museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. If you have to choose, go to Prado if you like classical or to Reina Sofia if you prefer contemporary. After that, you can go to Barrio de las Letras (the Literary Quarter) and eat or drink something in one of the many bars of Huertas Street or Santa Ana Square. Carry on your visit by going to Puerta del Sol and after to Gran Vía, the main commercial street in the city. In the evening, you can go up Fuencarral street to the neighbourhoods of Malasaña and Chueca, which contain plenty of life and lots of bars to have some drinks and keep the night going until very late in a more alternative atmosphere.

You can start your next full day in Madrid going along the capital's major artery, Paseo de la Castellana, until you reach Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid's stadium. On your way, you will see the modern part of the city, with bigger streets and straight lines, very different to the chaotic streets in the city centre. Another good choice is to go to Plaza de España (Spain Square) and to the Debod Temple, brought directly from Egypt as a gift. If you are looking for a more alternative or avant-garde scene, a visit to La Casa Encendida, El Matadero or the Círculo de Bellas Artes are cracking options. If you fancy a more multiethnic and alternative neighbourhood, go to Lavapiés and eat in one of the Asian restaurants and have some drinks in the many bars of its streets.
